Life expectancy refers to life expectancy at birth. That is, the number of years an infant born within a defined population may be expected to live based on the conditions prevailing in that society at the time of its birth.

One of the quickly noticed differences in well-being between Kerala and India is the life expectancy of men ten years longer in Kerala than for men in India. And the life expectancy of the women of Kerala is fifteen years longer than the women of India. (data table)
